My personal look on Webflow’s pros and cons, why I decided to invest in it and recommended it to my customers, what I think it is missing and why you should definitely choose Webflow for your website and landing page.
It might be strange to you as I have a blog talking about Webflow’s cons when I do sell Webflow service. But in all of my processes, I always want to keep everything transparent to customers and business owners. Webflow is not the only website builder and CMS on the market, you have many other choices. And just like any other tools, before investing your money in, you need to understand what Webflow is and if it meet your requirements.
What is Webflow
Webflow is a cloud-based website design & develop tool, also a content management system (CMS) that allow you to create and host your website with no or less coding. Some of Webflow’s features include:Real-time visual no code builder, custom coding support.Webflow app.Collaboration for the team.Localization or multiple languages websites.Fully responsive and Mobile ready.CMS integration for content management.A comprehensive set of tools for SEO optimization.Code export.Webflow’s target audience are business owners who look for a more tailored and interacted website, Web development agency who want to reduce the development time and freelance web designers. And it seems like Webflow has been hitting the right spot as according to builtwith.com, there are currently over 482,000 live websites built with Webflow in the US alone.
Webflow’s pros to Web Designers
1. Visual “code” builder
Although, one can say Webflow is a no code builder, the truth is, Webflow is a builder platform where traditional coding with HTML, CSS and JS is visualized into a comprehensive interface which is especially easier for newcomer to learn and utilize.
2. Collaboration
Webflow allows for quick collaboration and development Development team or designers can work on a project while customers can give live feedbacks which help create a fluid process.
3. SEO made easy
Webflow offers right out of the box a set of SEO tools for designers to easily edit and manage. Which shorten the SEO managing time, and made SEO more accessible. Also, Webflow’s built-in audit tool which provide SEO recommendation is one of my favorite about Webflow.
4. Code customization
The weak point of a lot of no code website builders out there, Webflow allow their users to add in functions and elements that are missing through custom code. This help put Webflow’s flexibility and customization ahead of the competition.
5. Immersive interaction
Webflow provides designers with options to create unique interactions that enhance user experience, and help website stands out from the general market. This is also one of the first reason that I decided to invest in Webflow at the beginning.
Webflow’s cons to Web Designers
1. Restriction on eCommerce
Up until the time of this blog, Webflow’s eCommerce is still not fully refined and in beta phase. You can still use Webflow’s eCommerce for simple shops but I personally would not recommend my clients to make an eCommerce shop with Webfow since there are much better and easier options out there such as Shopify.
2. The learning curve
Comparing to other no code website builders, Webflow is significantly harder to learn. Despite its ‘no-code’ emphasis, some understanding of CSS and HTML is essential to getting the most out of the Webflow designer.. Although Webflow’s university is one of the best learning platform I ever experienced, it still take me some time to really get the hang on Webflow.
3. Pricing and plans
Despite spending time with Webflow, its pricing and plan structure is still sometime confusing to me, especially on higher enterprise plans which I have not had the opportunity to try out. And its pricing might also be higher than a lot of other platforms.
4. Localization & Multi-lingual
Localization is one of the newest feature of Webflow which make multi-lingual websites be done easier. But the fact it is not included in standard Webflow subscription but as stand-alone subscription might be a huge turn off.
Webflow for business owners
Despite the cons I listed, you as the customer might not need to care about them as all, as I’m here to help you clear up any questions. Webflow is still one of the best solution for your website. If you want to make highly customized, high-performing, immersive and stand-out websites, you will love Webflow:
- Webflow performs exceptionally well on mobile.
- Thanks to Webflow’s capabilities, websites and landing pages built with Webflow are highly interactive and provide unique experience for your audience.
- Highly secure websites. Webflow will monitor and protect your websites for you.
- Editor mode where you can easily update and change your content and blogs.
- Zero website down time.
- Due to the coding structure, exported code from Webflow is clean and scalable in case you want to take your website further as a webapp.
Conclusion
At the end, nothing is perfect, Webflow has many up and down but to my personal experience, its target audience is already starting to diverge from others, targeting business owners with higher standards with their websites and in need of breaking out the general quality of other competitors. And I totally agree with the direction Webflow is going so far.So do I recommend it? Of course! Webflow is always the first solution I think of for websites and landing pages. But there might be reasons that you would better choose another option. That’s why I’m always open for a chat and offer free website audit service so you can ask any question and understand more before deciding.
